About the role

Teach courses in Early Childhood Education, adhering to the stated course objectives, content, and delivery.

Work with the Early Childhood Education Coordinator to develop, evaluate, and revise curriculum in early childhood education.

Prepare for teaching by developing current syllabi, examination and learning activities.

Create a supportive learning environment in the classroom and outside of this venue by being responsive to students' academic needs.

On-going assessment of curriculum implementation, applicability of field learning experiences, and progress of individual students through the program courses.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate student learning and participate in efforts to improve student success.
  • Adhere to ethical standards of the profession as outlined by the NEA and the State of Michigan.
  • Maintain licensure and certifications relevant to the field.
  • Perform quasi-supervisory responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of experience teaching young children (birth – age 8) in a licensed early childhood setting.
  • Experience with computer-based instruction, such as distance learning, learning management software, and modularized courseware.
  • Evidence of current CA/NR clearance from Michigan Department of Human Services.
  • Ability to pass a national criminal background check prior to hire.
  • Continuing professional development in early childhood and/or special education, and teaching.
  • Successful teamwork in a professional environment.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Understanding of and commitment to community college teaching, mission, and philosophy.
  • Innovative, flexible, and positive teaching style.
  • Effective communication skills, including reading, analyzing, interpreting, writing, and responding to questions.
  • Mathematical skills, including applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Integration of computer applications into teaching.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collegial relationships with students, peers, staff, and administrators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or Child Development from an accredited institution (desirable).
  • Recent teaching experience in the early childhood field at the college level (minimum of 5 classes within the past 3 years) (desirable).
  • Two years full-time experience in an administrative position in a licensed early childhood setting (desirable).
  • Graduate coursework in special education and/or elementary education (desirable).

Skills

  • Ability to integrate computer applications into teaching.

Pay

$1,158 per contact hour.

Schedule

Full-time faculty are obligated to teach during fall and winter, but professional responsibilities are year-round.

Additional Information

Must be available to teach onsite; opportunities do not exist to teach online courses only.

Visa sponsorship is not available.

Selected candidates must submit to a drug test and criminal background check.
