About the role

The Biological Sciences Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo is accepting applications for a pool of part-time lecturers from our local geographic area. Positions are available as determined by need during Fall and/or Spring semester of the 2026-27 academic year.

Responsibilities

Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the Biological Sciences Department. Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related discipline is required.
  • Master's degree in Biological Sciences or related discipline preferred.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Qualifications

  • Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department.
  • Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
  • Classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are as follows:
    • Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
    • Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
    • Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
    • Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,211

About the Department

The Biological Sciences Department offers programs leading to Bachelor of Science degrees in Biological Sciences, Marine Sciences, and Microbiology; minors in Biology, Microbiology and Biotechnology; and a Master of Science degree. The department also offers courses to satisfy general education and breadth requirements.
