About the role

Provide and coordinate spiritual care for hospice and palliative care patients and families, ensuring support aligns with their traditions and values.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver individual and group counseling through various settings, including home, hospital, and virtual visits.
  • Assess spiritual needs, plan interventions, and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive care plans.
  • Utilize community and volunteer resources to support patients and families.
  • Train and supervise staff and volunteers in spiritual care practices.
  • Develop resources such as literature, support groups, and memorial services.
  • Monitor service quality, patient satisfaction, and outcomes, implementing improvements as needed.
  • Provide bereavement support post-loss, including counseling and assistance with memorial services.
  • Maintain current knowledge of hospice and palliative care standards and regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years of spiritual care experience in healthcare, with at least one year serving patients with serious or terminal illnesses.
  • Master’s degree in theology, divinity, pastoral care, philosophy, or related field, plus four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
  • Valid driver’s license and Basic Life Support certification required.

  • Proficiency in emotional, spiritual, and grief counseling.
  • Group leadership and public speaking.
  • Strong teamwork, mentoring, communication, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams and provide respectful, individualized care.
