Basic Functions

This is a continuous recruitment for an applicant pool to fill part-time faculty (up to 67%) or temporary substitute assignments on an as-needed basis. Applications are accepted continually, and departments will refer to the pool as needed to fill temporary assignments. Applicants will remain in the pool for 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair all types of mobile equipment and stationary engines.
• Perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs per established manufacturer procedures with detailed documentation of defects and corrections.
• Perform metal welding and cutting operations as necessary for maintenance and repair of mobile equipment and stationary engines.
• Safely operate cranes, hoists, and other specialized service equipment.
• Maintain and repair heavy equipment tires.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• Follow established procedures for ordering parts and returning cores.
• Teach technical courses, including course planning from an established Course Outline, providing direct instruction, supervising students in a laboratory environment, assessing student progress, and providing tutoring and remediation as necessary.
• Determine pass/fail based on accepted standards from industry and government entities.

Requirements

• Minimum Qualifications:
  • Any bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional experience, OR
  • Any associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience, OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment common to mining operations.
  • Experience teaching technical courses, including course planning, instruction, and student assessment.
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Skills

• Proficiency in repairing and maintaining mobile equipment and stationary engines.
• Metal welding and cutting operations.
• Safe operation of cranes, hoists, and specialized service equipment.
• Heavy equipment tire maintenance and repair.
• Teaching and instructional skills, including course planning, student supervision, and assessment.
• Documentation and adherence to manufacturer procedures.

• This is not a Heavy Equipment Operator program.
• Minimum qualifications follow guidelines set by the Academic Affairs Division of the Chancellor’s Office, California Community Colleges. For equivalency qualifications, review the Faculty Equivalency Qualifications process.
• Specialized courses may require specific certificates meeting minimum content requirements specified by accrediting agencies.
