About the role

This part-time laborer position supports the Facilities Operations Team within the Office of Administration Division of Facilities Management, Design, and Construction (OA-FMDC). The role involves assisting in a variety of building, equipment, and grounds maintenance tasks across multiple trades areas, including general maintenance, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and more. The position emphasizes hands-on work, customer service for diverse stakeholders, and alignment with project objectives and the mission of OA-FMDC.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a variety of semi-skilled work in the alteration, maintenance, and repair of state buildings, facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Maintain grounds for state buildings through horticultural care, debris and trash disposal, snow removal, and salt application.
  • Perform manual labor related to receiving, handling, and storing building materials and similar items.
  • Assist in cleaning parking lots and patching or painting asphalt.
  • Perform light electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs, including drywall and painting.
  • Execute work orders in a timely and accurate manner under general supervision from maintenance or specialized trades supervisors.
  • Travel to other facilities within a 2-hour radius to provide occasional assistance.
  • Follow OA-FMDC health and safety protocols and OSHA standards.
  • Answer emergency calls and travel to other facilities to provide coverage and assistance for severe weather, snow removal, water leaks, fire, and other emergencies.
  • Provide after-hours coverage at state facilities to ensure proper maintenance and safety for team members and the public.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and carry out time-sensitive instructions independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to properly lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate gas- and hand-powered lawn maintenance tools and equipment.
  • General knowledge of grounds keeping, trades work, maintenance, and repair.
  • Ability to operate mowing machinery, tractors, and/or motorized equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license or an equivalent from an adjacent state if residing outside Missouri.
  • Safety-first mindset with considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions (OSHA 10 and/or 30 preferred, but training can be provided).

Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis for denying consideration to any applicant. Successful background check results are required for employment, which may include name and/or fingerprint screenings. Authorization to work in the United States is a prerequisite of employment; the Office of Administration will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
