About the role

This part-time laborer position supports the Facilities Operations Team within the Office of Administration Division of Facilities Management, Design, and Construction (OA-FMDC). You will assist in a variety of building, equipment, and grounds maintenance tasks across multiple trades, ensuring projects align with objectives and support the mission of FMDC. The role prioritizes excellent customer service for diverse stakeholders and contributes to maintaining safe, secure, and well-functioning state facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Complete semi-skilled work in the alteration, maintenance, and repair of state buildings, facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Maintain grounds through horticultural care, debris/trash disposal, snow removal, and salt application.
  • Perform manual labor related to receiving, handling, and storing building materials.
  • Assist in cleaning parking lots and patching/painting asphalt.
  • Perform light electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs (including drywall and painting).
  • Execute work orders in a timely and accurate manner under general supervision.
  • Travel to other facilities (within a 2-hour radius) to provide occasional assistance.
  • Follow OA-FMDC health and safety protocols and OSHA standards.
  • Respond to emergency calls and provide after-hours coverage for severe weather, water leaks, fires, and other urgent situations.
  • Operate gas- and hand-powered lawn maintenance tools, mowing machinery, tractors, and motorized equipment.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and carry out time-sensitive instructions independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • General knowledge of grounds keeping, trades work, maintenance, and repair.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license or a license from an adjacent state if residing outside Missouri.
  • Safety-first mindset with knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions (OSHA 10 and/or 30 preferred; training can be provided if needed).
  • Authorization to work in the United States (visa sponsorship is not available).
  • Successful background check (including name, fingerprints, and other screenings as required).
