Facilities is a service organization responsible for planning, renovation, maintenance, and repair of University buildings and facilities, as well as providing essential services such as utilities, vehicle rental, refuse collection, and custodial services.

About the Role

This position is responsible for the cleaning and sanitation of University buildings or special projects. This is a part-time, benefits-eligible position working 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes, and buffs floors, hallways, and stairways.
• Cleans and vacuums carpets and rugs.
• Cleans and dusts furniture, walls, ceilings, windows, windowsills, woodwork, and other building surfaces.
• Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, baths, commodes, urinals, lavatories, drinking fountains, and other fixtures.
• Picks up and removes trash and waste from buildings, cleans waste receptacles, and transports recyclable materials to designated drop-off points.
• Unlocks building doors as required for building functions and programs.
• Moves furniture for cleaning purposes.
• Observes safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
• Ensures proper care and use of custodial equipment and cleaning supplies.
• Maintains custodial closet and cart in a neat and clean manner.
• Removes trash daily and disposes of it in proper locations.
• Communicates with custodial supervisors daily and reports inappropriate actions, injuries, safety issues, and work repairs.
• Completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision.

• Follows all departmental cleaning standards provided by supervisory leadership.
• Demonstrates punctuality and adheres to policies and procedures for absences, time, and attendance.

Requirements

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to read and understand labels on chemicals.
• Ability to apply mathematical concepts (e.g., measuring and mixing chemicals).
• Sufficient knowledge of cleaning methods and proper use of cleaning equipment.
• Ability to operate vacuum cleaners, floor waxers, buffers, and other cleaning equipment.
• Physical ability to perform work involving standing, stooping, operating cleaning equipment, and lifting materials and equipment.
• Ability to recognize and report maintenance needs in buildings.
• Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Stable employment record.
• Physically able to perform work involving standing, stooping, operating cleaning equipment, and lifting trash and equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
• Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and similar structures.
• Moving about to accomplish tasks or transitioning between worksites.
• Operating machinery and/or power tools.
• Repeating motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Environmental Hazards

• Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
• Noisy environments.
• Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.

Pay

$15,600 per year
