About the role

This classification provides administrative and investigative support in the daily operation of an assigned unit on the evening shift from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Responsibilities

  • Collects crime reports data, arrest data, field interview card data, intelligence reports, and other crime-related data to forecast crime patterns; conducts routine analysis of crime patterns, series, and trends using chronological, geographic, and statistical methods.
  • Collects, collates, analyzes, and presents detailed crime statistical reports; generates reports of crime trends and patterns; creates and distributes reports as requested; presents findings to County management, administrators, elected officials, citizen groups, and others.
  • Inputs, accesses, and queries data in various County, state, and federal computer systems, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Police Record Systems, Georgia and National Crime Information Center databases, and other systems; performs mapping functions and produces computer-generated maps displaying crime activity geographically and temporally; updates and maintains GIS data; performs routine conversions of data sets; queries databases for analytical information.
  • Provides crime analysis data and acts as a liaison to department personnel and other agencies; supplies current and useful information to aid tactical crime control and prevention; identifies and analyzes methods of operation of individual criminals; provides crime pattern recognition and analysis of field interrogations and arrests.
  • Researches, compiles, and reports information in support of traffic control and criminal investigations; compiles routine background and history information to assist investigators; responds to ad-hoc requests from command staff and other units for meetings and briefings.
  • Creates and maintains computer databases, spreadsheets, word processing documents, maps, and charts; digitizes hardcopy materials; analyzes computer outputs for completeness and accuracy; produces maps, charts, graphs, and other collateral materials; provides digitized or hard-copy products to the public.
  • Trains departmental staff in the development and maintenance of analytical systems and data collection; identifies information gaps and future collection requirements; recommends improvements to streamline data collection processes.
  • Attends training and studies current literature on research methodology, police issues, and law enforcement technology; makes recommendations for improvements in crime analysis and intelligence analysis practices.
  • Assists in the design, testing, and maintenance of operational databases, analytical software, hardware, and peripheral equipment to enhance work product quality, improve productivity, and ensure proper equipment function.
  • If assigned to the Sheriff's Office, functions as the field office command center during large-scale operations or search warrants to provide continuous communication with agents, other agencies, databases, and related resources.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Data Analysis, or a related field preferred.
  • Two or more years of progressively responsible and knowledgeable support work experience in a criminal justice or law enforcement agency, providing broad knowledge of criminal justice administration systems and computer software packages such as Microsoft Office.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job may be considered.

Qualifications

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
  • Requires NCIC/GCIC certification within 6 months of assignment.

Skills

  • Ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
  • Ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals.
  • Ability to communicate orally.
  • Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Schedule

Evening shift from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
