Part Time - Certified Medication Aide (DOH/FBMC #31357+)

Salary: $20.56 - $30.85 hourly / $42,773 - $64,160 annually. This position is a Pay Band C4 and may be used to fill multiple openings. Applicant lists may be screened more than once.

About the role

This position administers medications to residents at a long-term care facility and observes residents for expected actions and adverse reactions to medications. The role involves preparing verbal reports and written documentation regarding medication administration, changes in resident conditions, and operational deviations.

Customers served are residents of the long-term care facility.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications to residents.
• Observe and document residents’ responses to medications, including adverse reactions.
• Prepare verbal and written reports on medication administration, resident condition changes, and operational issues.
• Conduct Medication Administration Record (MAR) audits.
• Maintain safety awareness related to narcotic use.

Requirements

• Certification as a Certified Medication Aide (CMA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or Certified Nursing Aide (CNA).
• One year of experience providing basic dietary, housekeeping, and/or laundry services in a long-term care facility or equivalent experience.
• Certification by the New Mexico Board of Nursing to practice as a Certified Medication Aide.
• Licensure in accordance with Medication Aide regulations (61-3-10.2 NMSA 1978 and 16.12.5 through 16.12.5.21 NMAC).
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to interact tactfully with personnel, residents, and family members.
• Ability to function independently, demonstrate flexibility, personal integrity, and work effectively with residents and agencies.

Employment Conditions

• Designated as a safety-sensitive position; subject to pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing.
• Screening for tuberculosis (TB) required upon hire.
• Subject to a nationwide criminal background check under the New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act.
• Works throughout nursing service areas, including nurse stations and resident rooms.
• Subject to frequent interruptions and interactions with emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
• May work beyond normal hours, including weekends, holidays, and during emergencies (e.g., severe weather, evacuations).
• Exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions.
• Must comply with COVID-19 requirements for healthcare facilities, including masking and vaccination.
• Physical ability to push, pull, move, or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.

Pay

$20.56 - $30.85 hourly / $42,773 - $64,160 annually.
