Responsible for quality patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider in a clinical practice.
Responsibilities
- Room patients, take vitals and health history, and document in an electronic medical record.
- Administer injections and assist with minor procedures.
- Ensure accurate calibrations, cleaning, and scheduled maintenance of clinical/lab equipment as required by OSHA, DHEC, and UMA; tracked by documentation.
- Maintain and review patient records, charts, and pertinent information; communicate as appropriate and document test/exam results.
- Communicate plan of care to the patient, including developing patient education materials as necessary.
- Maintain exam room supplies, instruments, and cleanliness of patient care environment per OSHA, DHEC, and UMA standards.
- Maintain timely flow of patients, assist with scheduling appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability.
- Screen patients for appropriate information and provide education related to diagnosis and treatment.
- Observe, record, and report patient’s physical and psychosocial condition, reactions to medication and treatments to the physician.
- Respond to and triage phone calls; call in orders as directed by the physician.
- Instruct patients regarding treatment and/or medication as ordered by the physician.
- Monitor and distribute medication, including samples and controlled substances.
- Triage patients and prepare for physician exams and procedures; assist with exams, procedures, and treatments as necessary.
- Instruct patients in the collection of samples and tests; administer prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician.
Requirements
CMA I
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
- One (1) year of patient care experience preferred.
- Certification through American Medical Technologist (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Health Career Association (NHA), MedCA, National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or equivalent.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
LPN I
- Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program.
- Licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
Physical Requirements
- Continuous standing, walking, and sitting; ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, and reach in all directions.
- Full use of both hands and legs, good finger dexterity, and ability to perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.
- Ability to be physically qualified for respirator use, initially and as required.
- Maintain 20/40 vision corrected; see and recognize objects at close and far distances.
- Work in a latex-safe environment and primarily indoors.
- Frequently lift, lower, push, pull, and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted; exert up to 50 lbs of force; lift from 36” to overhead up to 25 lbs.
- Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
