Part Time Backer
About the role
Transdev is proud to offer a part-time Backer position starting at $23.0045 per hour with potential progression to $25.0013 over 2 years. Benefits include paid sick time.
Responsibilities
- Directs buses during backing by motioning with hands and/or handheld flashlight: Motions with hands and/or flashlight while directing buses that are backing out of stalls. Must utilize clear backing and stopping signals until operator places the bus into drive and pulls away. Be alert and aware to operators requiring spotters; observant of flashers, back up lights, signals, and/or horns in order to assist operators with staying on paddle.
- Affirms safety procedures are followed at all times. Stand at left rear corner of bus in order to be seen by the driver and far enough back (between 12-15 feet) to be seen by other buses. Must wear designated safety vest.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Assists SQMs with monitoring arrivals and departures: Maintains time logs detailing the arrivals and departures of buses operating on specified route(s). Assists bus operators boarding/de-boarding passengers when needed. Assists supervisory staff with ensuring the timely departures of buses on routes traveling through the appropriate transportation terminal. Maintains communication and relays any pertinent information to SQMs/Dispatchers.
- At direction of SQMs/Dispatchers, provide assistance to Bus Operators including boarding/de-boarding of passengers: As needed, and at the direction of SQMs/Dispatchers, occasionally assists Bus Operators with boarding and de-boarding of passengers at terminal locations and in addressing passenger questions. Occasionally may be required to assist in crowd control.
Qualifications
- Must be able to direct any bus that is backing in order for bus operator to avoid hitting pedestrians or fixed objects.
- High School Diploma or GED Required.
- Must be able to direct bus while walking backward or forward and motioning with hand, carrying a flashlight.
- Must possess good communication skills.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with peers, supervisors, and outside public.
- Must be able to work in outdoor climates and be subject to fumes, extreme heat/cold, and other environment factors.
- Must be able to endure prolonged standing.
