About the Role
Our Adult Day Program offers a social model with Arts, Games, Field Trips, and more. This Part-time Adult Day Program Support Assistant role focuses on daily interactions with participants to enhance and maintain their cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being through a variety of activities.
This part-time position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 3 PM (25 hours per week).
Responsibilities
- Ensure participants are engaged in recreation and life enrichment activities of their choice while in the center.
- Offer assistance proactively with an encouraging attitude to inspire participants.
- Be familiar with each participant’s Individualized Care or Service Plan and assist with implementing their requested choices daily.
- Demonstrate understanding of Person-Centered Care principles: Respect, Dignity, Confidentiality, Responsibility, Coordination, Experience, and Goals.
- Learn and understand the characteristics of various diagnoses represented in the center.
- Stay informed of legal requirements for adult day services and participate in all required training sessions.
- Assist participants at mealtimes, including setting up meals/snacks, plating food, cutting food as needed, and pouring beverages while adhering to CACFP guidelines.
- Assist with spills, toileting emergencies, transfers, or changing clothes as necessary.
- Maintain records and reports, including daily/monthly notes, sign-in sheets, and incident reports.
- Develop supportive relationships with caregivers, providing advocacy and resources upon request.
- Act as a team player, providing leadership, assistance, and coverage for coworkers.
- Attend all in-service training and meetings as requested by the Director.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or higher; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is highly desirable.
- At least one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities and mobility limitations.
- Prior experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), CNA, or Patient Care Technician (PCT) is beneficial.
- Commitment to Person-Centered Care philosophy.
- Ability to take initiative and encourage participant engagement in daily activities.
- Creativity, patience, and flexibility in working with participants.
- Ability to multitask and work within a team environment.
- Willingness to adhere to Signal Centers' policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and using a computer for data entry, email, and calendar notes.
- Effective communication with participants and coworkers.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Ability to bend over and lift at least 50 lbs.
- Ability to push a manual wheelchair.
- Use of both hands and fine muscle control.
- Willingness and ability to assist clients with transfers, adjustments, and hygiene issues when necessary.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Pre-employment physical, including TB skin test or chest x-ray.
- TBI Fingerprinting Background Check.
