As a Projects Technician, you’ll take on hands-on work that directly enhances parks, trails, and public facilities—from irrigation system installation and repair to small construction and improvement projects. This seasonal position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems, and seeing the results of their work come to life in real time.
General Purpose
The Parks & Recreation Projects Technician is a seasonal position responsible for supporting the maintenance, repair, and improvement of City parks, facilities, and public use areas. This position focuses on irrigation system installation and repair, as well as small construction and improvement projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of park irrigation systems, including sprinklers, valves, controllers, and mainlines
- Diagnose irrigation issues such as leaks, pressure problems, and coverage deficiencies
- Perform seasonal irrigation startup, monitoring, and winterization
- Complete small construction projects including fencing, concrete work, trail improvements, signage installation, and park amenities (benches, tables, etc.)
- Affix carpentry, basic plumbing, and light electrical tasks related to park infrastructure
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, and light to medium equipment
- Affix assistance with park improvement projects, renovations, and special projects as assigned
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work sites
- Follow all City safety policies and procedures; identify and report hazards
- Work collaboratively with other Parks staff and City departments
- Provide support to general parks maintenance operations as needed
Job Qualifications
- Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience: Minimum qualifications include experience in irrigation, construction, landscaping, or related field preferred
- License: Valid Colorado driver’s license (or ability to obtain)
- Background Check: Ability to pass a background check and/or drug screening if required by City policy
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge: Basic knowledge of irrigation systems and components preferred, basic knowledge around construction techniques and materials
- Skills: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, ability to read and follow basic plans, diagrams, and instructions, ability to work independently and manage time effectively, strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work, ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members
- Language: English Language Comprehension - Requires the ability to listen to, read, understand and communicate the English language so that others are able to understand. This must be done both orally and in writing, at the level appropriate for the position held.
Physical Activities
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally
- Ability to perform manual labor including digging, lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation

- Hand tools (shovels, rakes, wrenches, hammers, etc.)
- Power tools (drills, saws, compactors, etc.)
- Irrigation-specific tools and equipment (pipe cutters, valve keys, wire tracers, controllers)
- Light and medium equipment (utility vehicles, skid steer, small excavators, trenchers, mowers)
- Carpentry and concrete tools
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
Supervision Received
- Works under the general supervision of the Parks Foreman
