Parks Division
- Maintains parks, Park structures and other public areas by watering, planting and fertilizing grass and plants
- Trims and mows lawns and landscapes
- Performs weed and litter control in parks and other public areas
- Applies various forestry techniques to trees, including trimming, pruning, transplanting, etc.
- Applies pesticides and herbicides safely and effectively
- Polices public areas to identify and remove safety hazards and to ensure proper maintenance of Parks and recreational areas for special events and daily use
- Assists in maintenance and operation of irrigation systems, cleaning and replacing heads and broken lines
- Performs routine and recurring repair and maintenance of structures, fences, park benches and other outdoor park facilities
- Paints as necessary
- Prepares athletic fields for use by teams, leagues and the general public
- Assists General Craftsworkers in more complicated and difficult phases of plumbing, carpentry, masonry and other skilled crafts
- Operates trenchers, loaders, tractors, gang mowers, hand mowers, weedeaters, concrete and asphalt saws, jackhammers, pickup trucks, compaction wackers and other equipment required in the maintenance of City parks
- Performs routine preventive maintenance of equipment by checking oil, fluids, water and tire levels and advises superiors of mechanical or operational problems
- Uses various hand tools, including shovels, rakes, picks, hoes and wrenches
- Performs routine housekeeping in City parks and facilities
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- At least six (6) months of previous work experience performing maintenance work, repairs, equipment operation and motor vehicle operation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated proficiency in grounds maintenance
- Demonstrated proficiency using maps and plans
- Demonstrated proficiency in safely using required tools and operating required equipment
- Valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver’s License
- Flagger certification, Forklift certification, First aid/CPR, and any other appropriate certifications as required by law, ordinance or department regulations within six (6) months
- Washington State Department of Agriculture Pesticide Public Operator License (PCL) with Laws & Safety and General Weed Control Endorsements within 12 months of hire
