Examples of Duties

• Affords assistance with building and grounds maintenance work
• Affords assistance in repairing drives and walkways
• Marks off athletic fields to prescribed standards
• Runs errands, picks up and delivers supplies and materials
• Affords assistance in the propagating, planting, cultivating, watering and spraying of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees, and turf areas
• Cuts, prunes and trims trees, shrubs and hedges, rakes leaves, and removes fallen limbs and trash
• Performs litter control duties
• Performs custodial and maintenance tasks for recreational facilities
• Operates light automotive or power equipment in connection with above tasks
• Enters hours worked into computer software daily
• Performs related tasks as required

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Some knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in horticulture
• Some knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools, and techniques of the standard building trades
• Some knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the duties of the position
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to use common hand tools
• Ability to operate machinery and equipment
• Ability to work holidays, weekends, evenings, mornings, or as needed

Education and Experience

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth grade and some experience in grounds work
