Responsibilities
- Patrol University parking lots to ensure parking rules and regulations are observed.
- Operate a university vehicle to patrol and verify vehicles are parked in compliance with campus parking rules and regulations.
- Use a handheld computer and printer to issue parking citations daily.
- Contact the parking dispatcher to verify accurate customer and account information as needed.
- Work special events on campus such as graduation, move-in/out, football games, orientation, and other university-supported events.
- Assist with snow removal during inclement weather on campus, which may require additional hours outside the normal work schedule and even when the university is closed.
- Monitor parking signs on campus and report any problems to the supervisor.
- Tag, collect, store, and retrieve bikes on campus as needed.
- Assist motorists on the university campus by performing jump starts and lockouts and completing the required paperwork for these tasks.
- Provide directions and parking information to individuals on campus while maintaining a positive and professional attitude.
- Wear a departmental uniform, including items such as a two-way radio, body camera, and handheld computer.
- Perform other duties as requested by supervisor, take initiative to support the best interests of the department and a healthy work environment, and perform work aligned with the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct, Virginia Tech’s Principles of Community, and the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).
Requirements
- Customer service experience with a proven ability to work with diverse customers.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to deal with conflict situations calmly and professionally.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to use a handheld device and printer without supervision.
- Current valid driver’s license with no restrictions.
- Ability to safely operate a motorized vehicle and/or a bicycle.
- Ability to move and handle up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Availability to report to work during inclement weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with the Virginia Tech campus.
- Previous security, parking enforcement, or related experience.
- Knowledge of university parking rules and regulations.
- Data entry experience.
- Experience using a two-way radio.
- Experience working in a higher education environment.
