Park Ranger
About the role
Under general supervision, performs supervisory work in overseeing the activities of the assigned park. Reports to the assigned supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Ensures all rules and regulations are followed and picnic shelters are ready for use when needed.
- Protects City property in the park.
- Patrols the assigned park; oversees all scheduled activities.
- Performs maintenance duties such as picking up trash, washing gazebos, emptying trashcans as needed, etc.
- Performs janitorial duties such as cleaning restrooms, supplying toilet paper as needed, etc.
- Verifies proper paperwork submitted for events such as reservations at gazebos, insurance paperwork, etc.
- Completes accident/incident reports, supply lists, work orders, as needed.
- Reports any problems with rodents, suspicious individuals, and aggressive dogs.
- Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including paperwork for reserved party, insurance paperwork, and memorandums.
- Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as work orders, accident forms, incident forms, and supply list.
- Operates a variety of equipment and machinery such as a fax machine, etc.
- Uses a variety of tools such as garden hose, shovels, rakes, plunger, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, insect killer, air freshener, etc.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as immediate supervisor, day camps, schools, and the general public.
- Affords assistance in setting up chairs and tables for scheduled events.
- Affords assistance to the public unloading items into the park.
- Ensures areas for City events and the public are cleaned.
- Cleans and stocks restrooms for City events and the public.
- Reports any safety hazards.
- Cleans debris from driveways and sidewalks; trims trees; mends fences; washes driveways and sidewalks.
Qualifications
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by four to five years of recreation programming or security work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license.
