About the role
The City of Farmington is seeking one Park Ranger to join their team. This position is part of the Police Department and will work in various shifts across the city limits.
Responsibilities
- Enforcement of City Park Ranger ordinances, including citation writing, court appearances, and Parks patrol.
- Patrol all City parks and the Downtown District for prevention of vandalism, appropriate behavior, public relations, and ordinance enforcement.
- Check for proper equipment operation at Parks and Recreation facilities.
- Handle difficult and emergency situations independently.
- Maintain availability via radio or phone for consultation on major emergencies and coordination with police communication personnel.
- Carry out duties in compliance with City laws and ordinances.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public.
- Perform shift work, including weekends and holidays.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years or state of current residency.
- Excellent public relations skills.
- Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Previous experience as security guard or law enforcement preferred, but not required.
- Pass background check.
- Ability to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Subject to on-call and rotating shifts.
- Ability to learn applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and the public.
- Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to meet special requirements, including learning the City's geography and participating in the Environmental, Health, and Safety program.
Tools and Equipment Used
- Patrol vehicle, off-road vehicles (OHV), bicycle, police radio, and first aid equipment.
Physical Demands
- Frequent sitting and standing.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Use of hands for various tasks.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Climb or balance.
- Sit or kneel for extended periods.
- Adjust focus for vision.
Work Environment
- Frequent walking and running in outside weather conditions, including in the dark.
- Near moving mechanical parts.
- In high, precarious places.
- Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Noise level is usually moderate.
- Works out of doors in inclement weather.
- Operates city vehicle in all types of terrain and weather conditions.
