About the role

The Parent Support Specialist serves as a key resource for families in the school community, providing information about educational opportunities, engagement activities, and connecting families to necessary community resources.

Responsibilities

  • Inform parents and families about enhancement and extension opportunities through after-school programs and student activity offerings.
  • Coordinate parent education programs to build understanding of school and community topics while offering academic information and activities for home.
  • Increase parent and family engagement at the campus and support the academic success of students by providing reinforcement or extension ideas on learning activities in various group settings.
  • Complete home visits and maintain documentation of these visits.
  • Know and refer families to community resources, or access resources on their behalf, for the school community.
  • Serve as a communication link between families and school staff as needed.
  • Organize and coordinate a series of parent education activities and programs that provide information, resources, and support to families.
  • Disseminate approved materials and information about community activities and school programs at various venues.
  • Develop a plan with specific activities and engagement functions to increase parental involvement.
  • Serve as the liaison to recruit, process, and train campus volunteers.
  • Attend all required professional learning sessions directly related to the position.

Requirements

Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency).

Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work with people from various backgrounds.
