Paralegal Specialist (International Narcotics & Money Laundering)

About the role

The United States Attorney's Office, District of Montana seeks a Paralegal Specialist to support the office's legal operations.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and prepares research material and determines information pertinent to the case.
• Drafts legal documents identifying legal or factual issues, locating precedents, and developing legally supportable conclusions.
• Affords assistance to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSA) during hearings and trials.
• Participates in pre-trial witness conferences, noting deficiencies in case materials and additional issues requiring investigation.
• Determines which statutes, regulations, cases, procedures, and policies need to be researched and assembled, prepping initial summaries and making recommendations.

Requirements

You must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.

Qualifications

• GS-09: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level, demonstrating knowledge of legal research and the ability to interpret legal decisions.
• GS-11: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level, demonstrating practical knowledge of law, the litigation and judicial process, and applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
