About the role

The Department of Justice and the United States Attorneys' Offices provide legal assistance and office support services. Additional positions may be filled using this announcement.

Responsibilities

  • Support Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by providing a variety of legal assistance and office support services.
  • Review and organize complex factual material and other documentary data for investigations and trials.
  • Provide advice on the most efficient method for preparing legal documents.
  • Use tables and citation checking with efficiency.
  • Prepare a variety of substantive legal documents to include extradition requests, grand jury and trial subpoenas, interrogatory requests, and documentation relevant to acquiring evidence or testimony.
  • Develop and enter various case material into a computer database.
  • Create and maintain charts, graphs, and tables to illustrate results.
  • Prepare, develop, compile, or maintain jury instructions in preparation for trial.
  • Prepare exhibits for trial which typically involve a wide range of visual materials.
  • Manage litigation cases and organize cases for court presentation.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
  • Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.

Qualifications

  • GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below:
    • Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience.
  • GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below:
    • Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience.

Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP)

To be well qualified, you must satisfy all qualification requirements for the vacant position and receive a score of 85 or better on established ranking criteria. You must provide a copy of your written notification of CTAP eligibility with your application.
