About the role

This position is considered a career ladder opportunity, with a full performance level of GS-09. If selected at a lower grade level, you may be non-competitively promoted to the next grade level at the discretion of your supervisor and is contingent upon meeting regulatory and legal requirements for promotion, satisfactory performance, and the availability of higher-level work. Promotion is not guaranteed, and no promise of promotion is implied.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize documentation, evidence, or other documentary data for trials.
  • Provide advice on the most efficient method for preparing legal documents.
  • Use multiple online legal systems to research, evaluate, and analyze a variety of routine legal topics and/or points of law.
  • Draft initial legal and administrative briefs, motions, oppositions to defense motions and correspondence for Assistant United States Attorney's (AUSA) review.
  • Develop and enter various case material into a computer database.
  • Prepare and organize exhibits, documents, memoranda, reports, and correspondence relating to cases for review by AUSAs for interviews, depositions, or use at trial.
  • Provide litigation case management and organize cases for court presentation.

Requirements

Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Qualifications

  • GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must meet ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, a Combination of Education and Experience, or Superior Academic Achievement.
  • GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, or a Combination of Education and Experience.
