Paralegal / Legal Assistant

About the role

Anderson Larson is a full-service, multidiscipline law firm dedicated to providing quality services to residents and businesses throughout the Willmar and West Central area, including Benson, Bird Island, Hector, Litchfield, Montevideo, Olivia, Paynesville and other surrounding communities. We have extensive experience in a wide range of practice areas, including personal injury, workers’ compensation, real estate, estate planning, family law and business law.

Core Responsibilities

• Case Management: Maintain, organize, and track complex digital and physical case files from intake through resolution.
• Document Drafting: Prepare initial drafts of pleadings, motions, affidavits, discovery demands, briefs, and routine legal correspondence.
• Legal Research: Utilize legal databases to research relevant statutes, case law, and public records to support litigation strategies.
• Client & Court Communication: Act as a professional liaison between attorneys, clients, opposing counsel, and courthouse staff in Kandiyohi County and surrounding jurisdictions.
• Scheduling & Deadlines: Manage the attorney’s calendar(s), tracking strict court deadlines, scheduling depositions, hearings, and client consultations.

Qualifications & Skills

• Education/Experience: Associate’s degree in paralegal studies, a Bachelor’s degree with a Paralegal Certificate, or 2+ years of experience working as a legal assistant/paralegal in a private firm setting.
• Technical Savvy: Proficiency in legal practice management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and Minnesota’s e-Filing system (eFile & eServe).
• Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a strong emphasis on proofreading and formatting accuracy.
• Local Focus: Familiarity with Minnesota state court rules and local legal procedures is highly preferred.
• Soft Skills: High level of discretion, strong analytical abilities, and the capacity to handle sensitive client situations with empathy.
