Responsibilities
- Serve as the point of contact for the legal team by conducting basic research, data compilation, and document review and maintenance.
- Assist attorneys with discovery and public records requests.
- Organize and assist with the preparation of legislative bill summaries.
- Prepare legal documents, draft responses, letters, emails, memos summarizing facts of legal matters, and gather information to support the Department's attorneys.
- Support attorneys and managers through timely handling of public records requests, legal documentation preparation and review, and research.
- Investigate and research information in reports and assist with case or report preparations.
- Review contracts and agreements that will be approved by an attorney.
- Maintain and manage records for incentive program compliance, grant program support, and other monitoring as needed.
- Conduct legal research, writing of legal documents, review, and preparation for attorney usage.
- Execute liaison duties, communicate with stakeholders and government officials.
- Utilize legal research tools to summarize depositions and transcripts for hearings or appeals.
- Coordinate and prepare reports needed for discovery and hearings.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies from an American Bar Association approved program at an accredited college or successful completion of a program at an American Bar Association approved paralegal institute.
- Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Preferred: Experience with public records laws and document review.
- Minimal travel may be required; must present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
