Job ID: Position in the General and Special Victims Prosecution Section

Responsibilities

  • Case Intake: Receive cases as assigned to the division and notify appropriate agencies. Upload discovery, request missing information, create defense copies, redact necessary information, prepare discovery for defense attorneys, and file reciprocal motions on behalf of the State.
  • Case Prep: Become familiar with the case, add additional discovery as received, prepare court documents (indictments, sentencing sheets, permanent restraining orders, motions), and conduct legal research as needed.
  • Trial: Prepare for and attend trial with assigned attorneys.
  • Case Closure: Close and file disposed cases, return case files when necessary, upload closing documents, notify appropriate agencies, and complete all tasks required for case resolution.
  • Serve as Assistant Terminal Agency Coordinator for NCIC for the entire office.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and experience performing delegated, substantive legal work.
  • A Paralegal Certificate or an Associate degree with paralegal studies is required.
  • Position may require overnight travel, work on evenings and weekends, and the ability to transport files.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, and organizational functions.
  • Knowledge of all stages of litigation in court cases or administrative proceedings.
  • Knowledge of motions, discovery, litigation, documentation, court, and administrative proceedings rules, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to perform legal research in accordance with preliminary instructions as to methods or approach, source material available, and policy and precedent of the office.
