About the role
Under close supervision and following well-defined standard operating procedures and guidelines, the incumbent will aid multiple Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSA) by performing a range of paralegal and case management duties.
Responsibilities
- Examine, prepare, and process legal documents such as orders, arrest warrants, criminal cover sheets, and subpoenas
- Compile documents in preparation for hearings and trial
- Create case fact timelines
- Open, manage, and close cases through various government computer systems
- Maintain calendars of assigned active cases
- File documents with the court using online ECF filing systems
- Interact with the victim assistance specialist unit regarding case management
- Interact with opposing counsel, case agents, and other federal agencies
Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT (Moderate Risk Public Trust) facility credentials/authorization; U.S. citizenship is required for MRPT credentials at this work location
- Requires paralegal certificate, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school having completed at least one year of study
- One year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may substitute for the paralegal certificate
- At least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required; trial experience is very helpful
- Automated litigation support experience is valued
- Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite-check legal motions and memoranda
- Must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems
- Basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources
- Ability to consistently deliver highest-quality work under extreme pressure
Pay
$23.28 per hour
