About the role

Performs specialized instructional support to individuals and groups of Special Education or Severely Handicapped students. This position applies to those who have been trained and integrate significant para-professional health care services or behavior interventions with instructional support.

Responsibilities

  • Supports students with special educational needs in a variety of settings.
  • Provides instructional assistance tailored to individual student needs.
  • Collaborates with teachers and other professionals to develop and implement educational plans.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Applies knowledge of health care and behavior interventions as part of instructional support.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 48 units of college credit hours that are degree eligible.
  • One year of experience working in a classroom environment with students who have special needs.
  • Additional college coursework may substitute for some experience.
  • Experience in an instruction support or health care environment may substitute for some post-secondary education.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid First-Aid card and CPR certificate.

Qualifications

  • NCLB Compliance (48 college units or pass the Paraeducator Proficiency Exam).
  • Proof of HS Graduation - High School Diploma or High School Transcripts or equivalent (ex: GED).
  • Cover letter and resume.

Skills

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators and support staff.
  • Knowledge of special education methodologies and resources.
  • Basic understanding of health care and behavior intervention techniques.

$22.11 - $29.22 per hour in 9 annual steps. Salary placement is based on relevant experience.
