About the role
Assists one or more Early Childhood teachers in the education, care, supervision, and instruction of pre-school aged children, in classrooms, common areas, and playgrounds at a center dedicated to pre-kindergarten children, and in the community. Maintains and prepares classroom and related environments, materials, and control of forms. Assists in developing play-oriented curriculum.
Responsibilities
- Supports teachers in creating a safe and inclusive learning environment for children.
- Assists in preparing and maintaining classroom materials and supplies.
- Supervises children during class time and breaks, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Participates in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities and lessons.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation as required by the program.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- California Associate Teacher Permit (Referred by Federal Head Start as “Child Development Associate Credential”) or Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- CPR/First Aid certificate with pediatric endorsement.
- NCLB Compliance (48 college units (semester) or pass the Paraeducator Proficiency Exam).
- Proof of HS Graduation (High School Diploma, High School Transcripts or Equivalent (ex: GED)).
Qualifications
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of child development and early childhood education principles.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with children and adults.
- Proficient in using technology and educational software.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities.
