About the Role

To assist a certificated teacher(s) in the instruction, supervision, and training of individual or groups of students by performing a variety of instructional support activities. This includes maintaining an effective learning environment and performing clerical duties as assigned. Employees in this role work with students who may qualify for Special Services under any of the 13 federal Special Education eligibility categories, including Specific Learning Disabilities, Autism, Other Health Impairments, Intellectual Disabilities, and Emotional Disabilities.

This position requires high positive contact with both students and certificated staff and may be assigned to classrooms, learning centers, testing centers, computer or science laboratories, child-care centers, or other instructional facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teacher(s) in instructing individuals and/or small groups of students in basic academic, vocational, and/or specialized subject areas; tutor students as assigned.
  • Help implement curriculum for assigned areas of instruction.
  • Supervise students to maintain an effective learning environment, noting behavioral problems and disciplining when necessary.
  • Organize assigned learning/instructional environments, including maintaining bulletin boards, issuing/retrieving equipment/materials, and ensuring neat and orderly spaces.
  • Prepare instructional materials, including copying, collating, stapling, and hole-punching quizzes, tests, and worksheets; gather resource materials and set up equipment.
  • Provide feedback to teachers and administrators on students’ progress through observation, daily contact, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Participate in parent/family meetings as assigned.
  • Administer and score tests, daily assignments, and homework.
  • Maintain informational and operational records/files, including test scores, attendance, meal counts, and student work folders.
  • Monitor and assist students using equipment such as computers, printers, industrial education tools, and cassette recorders.
  • Inventory, order, and maintain instructional supplies and equipment.
  • Take daily attendance and prepare attendance forms/reports.
  • Prepare answer keys for worksheets and tests.
  • Contact parents regarding absences, meetings, scheduling, and information verification.
  • Escort students on campus tours, field trips, and issue student passes.
  • Perform clerical tasks, including typing, filing, answering phones, and taking messages.
  • Translate written/oral information, assignments, letters, and forms for students, parents, and staff as needed.
  • Prepare and set up food for child-care center participants as assigned.

Requirements

  • Equivalent of two years of full-time college (at least 48-semester units) OR passing the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) test.
  • Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an approved organization (see CTC-approved agencies).
  • Current resume required as part of the application.
  • Bilingual candidates preferred.
  • Successful candidates must pass fingerprint clearance and provide official sealed transcripts.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative work relationships.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write a specified foreign language may be required.

Pay

  • Range 7: $21.28/hour – $27.19/hour (with 30 college semester units).
  • Range 8: $21.87/hour – $27.84/hour (with 60 college semester units OR Associate’s Degree).
  • Range 9: $22.37/hour – $28.55/hour (with 90 college semester units).
  • Range 10: $22.94/hour – $29.27/hour (with Bachelor’s Degree).
