About the Role

To assist certificated teacher(s) in the instruction, supervision, and training of individual or groups of students by performing a variety of instructional support activities. This includes maintaining an effective learning environment, performing clerical duties, and supporting the implementation of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for physically handicapped students who require one-on-one attention pursuant to special education regulations.

Employees in this classification receive direct to general supervision within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures and may be assigned to classrooms, learning centers, testing centers, computer or science laboratories, child-care centers, or other instructional facilities. This role involves high levels of positive interaction with both students and certificated staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teacher(s) in instructing individuals and/or small groups of students in basic academic, vocational, and/or specialized subject areas; tutor students as assigned.
  • Support certified teacher(s) in implementing curriculum for assigned areas of instruction.
  • Supervise students to maintain an effective learning environment, noting behavioral issues and disciplining when necessary.
  • Organize assigned learning and instructional environments, including classrooms, learning/testing centers, laboratories, or child-care centers; maintain bulletin boards, issue and retrieve equipment/materials, and ensure neat and orderly spaces.
  • Prepare instructional materials, including copying, collating, stapling, and hole-punching quizzes, tests, and worksheets; gather resource materials and set up equipment as assigned.
  • Provide teacher(s) and/or school administrators with feedback on students’ progress through observation, daily contact, and maintaining accurate student records.

Requirements

  • Equivalent of two years of full-time college (at least 48 semester units) or passing the NCLB exam. Official sealed transcripts or proof of NCLB exam passage required.
  • Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an approved organization. List of approved evaluators.
  • Successful candidates must pass fingerprint clearance.
  • Bilingual candidates preferred.
  • Current resume required as part of the application.

Pay

  • Range 13: $24.70/hour – $31.52/hour (with 30 college semester units)
  • Range 14: $25.30/hour – $32.34/hour (with 60 college semester units or Associate’s Degree)
  • Range 15: $25.99/hour – $33.10/hour (with 90 college semester units)
  • Range 16: $26.59/hour – $33.95/hour (with Bachelor’s Degree)
