POSITION: Elementary Paraeducator START DATE: August 2026 (exact start date to be determined) APPLICATION CLOSE DATE: Until Filled LOCATION: Kalama Elementary School SALARY: $23.65 - $26.96/hour DOE HOURS: 7 hours per day (10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.) / 189 days per year (includes 9 paid holidays) Benefits: Position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and LTD through the School Employee Benefits Board (SEBB), effective the first of the month after the start date. Position is eligible for retirement through the WA State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Summary Statement Under the direction and supervision of building principal, the Paraeducator performs tasks related to the monitoring and supervising of students on campus during and after school. A desire and ability to work with students is essential in this position. Essential Job Functions Monitor students during school hoursMonitoring students after school in our district childcare program, Chinook StationMaintain safety of students and act as a positive role modelAssist students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. reading stories, listening to students reading, language, spelling, etc.)Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programsKnow and follow health, safety, and emergency procedures of the districtCommunicate successfully with staff, students, and parentsDemonstrate professionalism through punctuality and minimal absencesPromote and practice professional growth and developmentPractice ethical and professional standards of conduct, including the requirements of confidentialityAssist professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessmentsAssist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needsAssist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on taskAssist students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areasConstruct, copy, and distribute and use educational materials as neededAssist students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement of IEP objectives, etc.Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needsCrossing Guard and recess duties may be assignedPerform any other related duties as assignedPerforms duties efficientlyUtilizes time appropriatelyMaintains an organized and safe work areaEnsures confidentiality of InformationAdheres to regulationsAdheres to district policies and proceduresProduces quality workCompletes work on scheduleShows InitiativeDemonstrates flexibilityUses safety equipment when appropriateAdapts and incorporates program and policy changesNote: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. Applicant Must Be 18 years or olderHave a High School Diploma or EquivalentHave completed one of the following requirements: Documentation to support an Associate's Degree or transcripts to verify the comparable equivalence (i.e. 72 college quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited university, college, community college, or business school), or ETS ParaPro Assessment with a passing score of 455, or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment: 220 Para Test must be taken at Lower Columbia College or ESD 112. Cost of test is not covered by the district.
