Distinguishing Characteristics

The Paraeducator Bilingual Aide position focuses primarily on translation and clerical support, differing from the Paraeducator Aide role, which emphasizes academic instructional support. This role is exempt from paraprofessional highly qualified status and is dedicated to serving as an interpreter and translator during students' first year in school. Additionally, you will reinforce and clarify instruction provided by the teacher through interpretation and translation. Proficiency in both Spanish and English is essential.

Exemplary Duties/Responsibilities

  • Interpret and translate for parents to clarify school policies and procedures.
  • Aid parents with school paperwork and translate school notifications and announcements.
  • Support parents in learning basic English and technology through computer programs.
  • Reinforce and clarify instruction provided by the teacher through interpretation and translation.
  • Support students in learning basic language skills, transitioning from Spanish to English.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assist in small group instruction or work with students one-on-one in a classroom setting.
  • Support second language learners in the classroom with academic instructional support and involve families in the transition to school experiences.

Employment Standards

  • Education/Experience: Any experience equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: Any experience that would demonstrate the ability to successfully perform duties and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge: Of Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Current office methods and procedures including filing and records management. Common office equipment and its usage.
  • Skill: At Reading, writing, and speaking in English and Spanish at a level required for successful job performance. Securing and maintaining the confidence and cooperation of students. Dealing tactfully with students, parents and school personnel. Evaluating situations accurately and taking effective action. Preparing and maintaining accurate and complete records, files and summaries. Operating various office equipment. Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • The work environment for a Paraeducator Aide I Bilingual typically involves working in a classroom setting, assisting teachers and students.
  • This role requires frequent interaction with students, parents, and staff.
  • The physical demands include standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, as well as occasional lifting and carrying of educational materials and equipment.
  • The position may also involve bending, reaching, and using audio-visual equipment.
  • The Paraeducator Aide I Bilingual must be able to maintain student discipline and order in various school areas, such as playgrounds, lunchrooms, and hallways, which may require quick and responsive actions to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.

Additional Job Information

  • This position is for the 2026/27 school year with an anticipated start date after August 1, 2026.
