EL Paraeducator Assistant I @ Dodson ES (35 hrs./wk., 182.days)

About the role

Under general supervision of site administration, assists teaching staff in providing English Learner (EL) students with individual and/or group instruction. Responsibilities include adapting classroom activities, assisting students with assignments, monitoring progress, collaborating with staff, and modeling English communication.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the EL teacher and/or EL Facilitator
• Affords support to students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments
• Maintains confidentiality regarding all aspects of his/her work with children, staff members, and all aspects of his/her work
• Monitors current and/or former EL student progress toward language/content objectives
• Collaborates with instructional staff to improve the overall quality of student language outcomes
• Helps instruct English learners, demonstrating language acquisition progress and academic skills
• Models English communication to develop student ability to communicate effectively in the English language
• Promotes EL students' self-esteem through positive language instruction and encouragement
• Maintains a safe and positive learning environment by monitoring students in various educational environments
• Attends required meetings and in-service presentations

Qualifications

• Completion of 48 semester or 60 quarter units from an accredited college/university (preferably in child development, education, special education, or related field)
• One (1) year of relevant experience
• High school diploma and two (2) years of experience as a Paraeducator aide or in a similar instructional/guidance role
