EL Paraeducator Assistant I HQ @ Desert Heights ES (35 hrs/wk, 182 days)

About the role

The EL Paraeducator Assistant I position at Desert Heights ES supports English Learner (EL) students by assisting teaching staff in providing individual and group instruction. Responsibilities include adapting classroom activities, monitoring student progress, and collaborating with instructional staff.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the EL teacher and/or EL Facilitator.
• Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding all aspects of his/her work with children, staff members, and all aspects of his/her work.
• Monitors current and/or former EL student progress toward language/content objectives.
• Collaborates with instructional staff to improve student language outcomes.
• Helps instruct English learners, demonstrating language acquisition progress and academic skills.
• Maintains a safe and positive learning environment by monitoring students in various educational settings.
• Attends required meetings and in-service presentations.

Qualifications

• Completion of 48 semester or 60 quarter units from an accredited college/university (preferably in child development, education, special education, or related field).
• One year of relevant experience as a Paraeducator aide or in a similar instructional/guidance role.
• High school diploma and two years of experience as a Paraeducator aide or in a similar instructional/guidance role.
