Position Summary

Provides instructional, group and individual behavior, and clerical support to teachers in special education classroom settings, assisting individuals or small groups of students to enhance learning. Assists teachers with instruction and classroom management that occurs in special education and general education classrooms and play field environs.

Responsibilities

  • Supports teachers in providing instructional assistance to students in special education and general education classrooms.
  • Assists in classroom management and behavior support.
  • Performs clerical tasks as needed.
  • Works with students in small groups or individually to enhance learning.
  • Assists teachers with lesson planning and implementation.
  • Participates in play field activities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a competency assessment demonstrating knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Completion of at least 48 college credit units may substitute for the competency assessment.
  • Valid driver's license (may be required).
  • Compliance with District skill/competency requirements.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of special education principles and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Pay

$20.38 - $26.98 per hour in 9 annual steps. Salary placement is based on relevant experience.

Schedule

6 hours/day; 5 days/week

Education and Experience

  • The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of a competency assessment demonstrating knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Completion of at least 48 college credit units may substitute for the competency assessment.

  • NCLB Compliance (48 college units (semester) or pass the Paraeducator Proficiency Exam)
  • Proof of HS Graduation - High School Diploma, High School Transcripts or Equivalent (ex: GED)
