Paraeducator - Elementary (Bilingual Spanish Preferred), 2.0 hrs/day (.25 FTE), Part Time, Temp
About the role
Position Summary: The incumbent performs a variety of instructional and classroom support and student supervision duties to assist the school and teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of students.
This is a part-time, temporary position (0.25 FTE) scheduled for 2 hours per day. Schedule is 11:15 a.m. – 1:15 p.m., subject to change depending on department needs. The work calendar is 180 days. The position is set to end on June 17, 2027.
Bilingual Spanish skills are preferred; pre-employment language testing is required for bilingual applicants. First round of interviews will be conducted by a review of applicants’ video submissions.
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in assessment, curriculum support, student interactions, enforcing and teaching safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of students.
- Implement behavior support and intervention plans as directed by a teacher; document student behavior to assist teachers in assessing progress with education plans.
- Maintain or assist in maintaining student weekly progress reports.
- Provide limited first aid when necessary; assess injury to determine whether nursing care is needed; maintain knowledge of students with medical concerns.
- Exercise discretion and assure protection of student confidentiality when communicating with students, parents, community members, and staff.
- Utilize training to manage student behavior and ensure safety; intervene when students are not in control, not in the proper location, or in dangerous situations.
- Take action or assist in taking action to de-escalate students at risk of harming themselves or others, following school/district-approved procedures.
- Provide instructional support and tutoring to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations.
- Oversee student safety during activities such as recess, playground supervision, bus duty, crossing guard duty, hallway supervision, etc.
- Provide toileting, feeding, mobility, and personal hygiene-related duties for students requiring such help.
- Perform clerical duties such as making copies, operating office equipment, answering telephones, ordering materials, and record keeping.
Minimum Qualifications
- Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or demonstrated commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community.
- Skill in communicating with a diverse population.
- Successful completion of an Associate’s Degree or two years of post-high school education in appropriate and related areas of study; the education requirement may be substituted at the District’s discretion by passing the written Educational Testing Service competency examination.
- May be required to be certified or become certified in first aid, CPR, and/or operation of defibrillators.
- Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing tasks and priorities.
- Ability to assist, console, and manage students who may be emotional, distraught, or frustrated.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and in control when working with students, parents, guardians, and community members who may be difficult and challenging to engage.
- Ability to follow written and verbal direction and take the initiative to seek clarity and take action when needed.
- Ability to be or become knowledgeable and supportive of classroom management and student discipline procedures.
- Proficiency in the proper use of the English language, including enunciation, spelling, and syntax, to assist and model proper language usage by students.
- Ability to organize work and set priorities for accomplishing work in a timely and effective manner.
- Ability to protect the confidentiality of student information consistent with FERPA requirements and good judgment.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, students, parents, volunteers, and community members.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Skill in the use of office and computer equipment and standard office and student information system software.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate and related field of study.
- Two years of experience demonstrating the ability to work successfully with children in a learning environment.
- Bilingual and bicultural skills in common languages to the District such as Spanish, Korean, Russian, and Vietnamese (to be determined by the specific position).
Compensation
Initial wage placement is according to the NCSD/OSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement, CLASSIFIED WAGE SCHEDULE 2026–2027, Job Group D22.8824.02:

Bilingual employees receive a 6% differential.
Retirement Plan Contributions
The North Clackamas School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of its employees. The district contributes the employer portion; there is also a mandatory employee portion. Upon eligibility—defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position—the employee is required to contribute 6% as their employee portion via payroll deduction. Part-time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify.
