About the role

The Painter position is responsible for the painting of cabs and parts for Spartan’s emergency response cabs and bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on paint equipment
  • Identify and spot repair paint defects in accordance with appearance specification
  • Verify cleaning chemical concentrations
  • Pre-treat and prep cabs and parts for paint
  • Spray base coat and clear coat
  • Mix tints following a formula to match paint codes
  • Maintain accurate documentation of paint codes
  • Coordinate material movement within the paint area
  • Load and unload parts on racking or carts per process documentation
  • Learn and retain skills and practices needed to complete duties in assigned area
  • Read and follow detailed operator instructions, installation drawings, blueprints, etc., as required by a particular area
  • Self-check work and inspect prior processes
  • Use basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools, as required
  • Meet production goals
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Initiate process improvements
  • Support 5S in work area
  • Communicate with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etc.) to resolve issues
  • Work in close proximity with customer, as needed
  • Solve complex problems with minimal assistance

  • No critical shortcomings on last performance review
  • Two (2) years of Automotive Paint experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of paint materials and cleaning chemicals
  • Vocational training for automotive finishing (preferred)
  • Able to tolerate very high heat temperatures, high dust, and exposure to chemicals
  • Able to work overtime on short notice
  • Willing to wear PPE respirators for extended periods
  • Willing to improve self, area, and company (including pursuing additional training, if needed)
  • Willing to develop a working knowledge of Spartan’s systems (e.g., AS/400)

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
