As an Aircraft Paint Technician on the weekend shift, you will transform aircraft from ordinary to extraordinary, working on everything from standard stripes and colors to highly detailed artwork. This hands-on role is ideal for someone with a creative edge and a passion for precision.
Responsibilities
- Masking and taping aircraft parts to avoid overspray
- Sanding primer
- Blowing and cleaning aircraft with thinner
- Washing the paint booth
- Applying all layers of paint, including top coat
- Laying out stripe and design schemes
- Prepping and scuffing paint for trim
- Re-masking aircraft and performing detail work
- Inspecting completed paint jobs
- Mixing and matching paint
- Communicating effectively in English (speaking, writing, reading)
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Vo-tech school in paint or on-the-job experience (preferred but not required)
- Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport (ideal)
- Reliable transportation to ensure consistent attendance
- Ability to work under specific deadlines and time constraints
- Flexibility to work overtime and weekend assignments
- Adherence to Federal Aviation Administration guidelines
- Compliance with all company and safety rules
- Customer-oriented work habits
Experience Levels
- Tech I: 0-2 years of paint experience in aviation, auto, RV, marine, or related field. Limited to no prior knowledge; requires close supervision.
- Tech II: 2-4 years of paint experience. Considerable knowledge of the job with broad understanding of detailed aspects; requires general supervision.
- Tech III: 4-6 years of experience. Full knowledge of the job; limited supervision required; can act as a trainer or mentor.
- Master Tech: 6+ years of experience in aviation interiors. Subject matter expert with comprehensive knowledge of the job.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting
- Work standing on ladders or scaffolds
- Pass pulmonary physical and respiratory fit test (required for wearing protective gear)
Mental Requirements
- Understand and implement regulations and guidelines (e.g., OSHA, hazmat)
- Work logically with mechanical processes
- Collaborate professionally with others
- Strong communication skills
Working Conditions
- Majority of work performed in a heated hangar or shop area
- Occasional work on the aircraft ramp
- Varied positions in and around the aircraft
Equipment Used
- Air equipment, polisher, and sander
- Stripper pump, electrostatic paint guns, pressure pots, and laser level
- Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment
Pay
The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $20-$28, depending on factors such as location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation includes a shift differential for alternate shifts, a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match, and employer contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
