About the Role

This position reports to the Paint Manager and focuses on maintaining and improving robotic paint processes within the Paint department.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain robotic paint processes in the Paint department.
  • Maintain procedures and equipment to improve efficiency and first-time yield capability.
  • Drive continuous improvement actions.
  • Work with the Paint Supervisor and Process Engineer on process and engineering changes.
  • Participate in Corrective Action Plan development, implementation, and follow-up as quality problems occur.
  • Evaluate and improve techniques to reduce downtime and extend the life of equipment.
  • Document all activities as required.
  • Provide support and maintain compliance with all company guidelines, union contracts, TS16949, ISO14001, and all applicable government regulations and standards.
  • Mentor junior paint process technicians through on-the-job training.
  • Perform robot adjustments to improve the quality of parts.
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) and repairs to robots and paint systems as needed.
  • Any additional responsibilities deemed necessary by management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with exposure to injection molding.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Understanding of customer needs, quality standards, and customer satisfaction evaluation.
  • Knowledge of production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing manufacturing efficiency.
  • Familiarity with paint processes and tooling, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of paint viscosity in relation to paint reduction with different types of reducing solvents.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production.
  • Pass the paint process technician amplitude test/manager evaluation demonstrating skill and ability level.
  • Proficiency in using computers, preferably in a GUI or PC, Windows-based operating environment.
  • Ability to organize resources and establish priorities.
  • Support management in implementing short and long-term goals.
  • Skills to track production OEE through measuring first-time quality, utilization, and efficiency.
  • Ability to determine the tools and equipment needed for a job.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain systems for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data.
  • Problem identification and solution implementation.
  • Ability to maintain processes that meet production targets and customer quality requirements.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet).
  • Ability to work in both non-climate-controlled manufacturing and office environments.
  • Upper body mobility, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to stand 90% of the time with frequent walking.
  • Ability to lift up to 90 lbs using one or two hands.
  • Occasional use of forceful abilities from 1 to 30 pounds during the shift.
