Paint Prep Technician

About the role

The Paint Prep Technician weekend position prepares transformer units for paint by cleaning, applying filler, taping, and sanding. Compliance with all safety requirements, product quality standards, and company policies is essential.

Responsibilities

• Review checklists and follow work order instructions to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Transport transformer units to assigned paint-department areas using material-handling equipment (forklift, crane, etc.).
• Assess and identify units for defects prior to prep; escalate issues to lead or supervisor.
• Prepare transformer units for paint by removing stickers and glue, applying filler, taping, sanding, and cleaning.
• Perform quality checks and verify units are not leaking before they leave the prep area.
• Follow all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate PPE (respirator, gloves, safety glasses, etc.).
• Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly workstation and area.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• OSHA10 certification preferred.
• 1 year of experience in paint manufacturing preferred.
• 1 year of experience with material-handling equipment (forklift, crane, etc.) preferred.
• Knowledge of basic hand tools preferred.
• Proven track record in safety excellence required.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders.
• Ability to meet department and production goals.
• Strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, cooperative attitude, and attention to detail.
• Ability to learn other department job functions and fill in as needed.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Physical requirements

• Complete and pass a respiratory fit test.
• Lift 50 lbs from floor to waist and waist to shoulder multiple times.
• Stand and walk for long durations.
• Bend, squat, and kneel multiple times for extended periods.
• Climb up and down a ladder multiple times.
• Balance and stand on a ladder with three points of contact for extended periods.
• Work comfortably in heat and cold (manufacturing facilities are not climate-controlled).

Schedule

Friday–Sunday, 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
