Paint Line Worker - 3rd Shift

About the Role

The Paint Line Worker prepares gears and other parts for shipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment under moderate supervision. The position involves multiple specialized tasks within the paint line process.

Responsibilities

• Cover/Cover Installer: Install seals in steering gears by applying grease under seals when required and hang arms for painting.
• Loader/Unloader: Pull gears/arms from skids, hang them on the paint line, scan barcodes into the AS400 system, place barcode tickets, cover output shafts with plastic tubes, and apply magnets to dirt shield areas. Unload painted gears/arms, apply correct barcode labels, and place them on the conveyor belt for prep. Visually inspect arms to ensure no paint in splines or ball holes.
• Masker/Painter: Cover areas on gears/arms with magnets and shields to prevent painting. Apply dirt shields to steering gears as required. Maintain daily and monthly checklists for the paint booth area.
• Unmasker: Remove masking from gears/arms after powder coating without disturbing the powder layer. Maintain checklists for the paint booth area and clean the paint room floor daily.
• Prepper: Scan barcodes of gears to determine prep requirements via the AS400 system. Apply grease, boots, shields, nets, retainers, and other components as specified. Install pitman arms on steering gears as needed.
• Skidder: Scan barcodes into the AS400 system before placing gears on the correct skid. Pre-load conveyors with packaging materials, follow skidding instructions, place gears in the correct formation, print tickets, strap and shuttle skids for inspection, and box gears daily.
• Pre-Torque: Verify pitman arm timing, install retainers, pre-torque retainers, and fabricate retainers as needed. Assist in unloading painted pitman arms and storing them in correct bins.
• Pitman Arm Installer: Install pitman arms on gears, contact inspection for first-piece approval, scan barcodes into the AS400 system, and enter torque data. Read depth gauges and calibrate torque tools daily.
• Carpenter: Construct skids for shipping steering gears, rework purchased skids, and build specialty skids for machine parts and specialty items.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

• Exposure to moderate heat, light dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, noise, and hazards such as electrical shock or gases.
• Some outdoor assignments may involve exposure to adverse weather conditions.
• Hearing protection required for noise levels at or above 85 decibels.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
• One year of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in shipping/receiving within a production/manufacturing setting.
• Forklift certification.
• Problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize under pressure.
• Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques (Standardized Work, Continuous Improvement, 5S, JIT principles).
• Ability to work overtime as needed, including daily and weekends.

Schedule

8-hour Night Shift, Sunday through Thursday.
