Paint and Plating Engineer II

About the role

The Process Development and Efficiency section of the Materials and Process Engineering Department seeks a Paint and Plating Engineer II to support product design and production for military and defense applications.

Responsibilities

• Supports all phases of product design and production for military and defense applications
• Develops and works with paint, coatings, and surface finishing procedures
• Trains operators and inspectors
• Assesses supplier capability and develops inspection processes/criteria
• Establishes and audits coating processes and works with suppliers
• Performs failure analysis and writes reports
• Travels up to 50% of the time (domestic and international)

Requirements

• Requires a U.S. security clearance
• Requires a U.S. citizen, U.S. person, or immigration status
• Requires a solid understanding in design for corrosion prevention and manufacturability
• Requires experience in metallurgy, galvanic corrosion, protective corrosion coatings
• Requires some technical knowledge and experience developing, working with, and approving paint, coatings, and surface finishing for in-house and supplier capabilities

Qualifications

• Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience
• Typically requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering
• Typically requires experience in interpreting engineering drawings, defense specifications, and translating into practical procedural instructions
• Typically requires experience as a technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing, and quality organizations
• Typically requires hands-on painting experience of either commercial or military hardware
• Typically requires working knowledge of Military and Commercial Paint and Plating, or Surface Finishing Specifications
• Typically requires self-motivation and good communication skills
• Typically requires adaptability and willingness to work in all project phases from design concepts through manufacturing
• Typically requires practical knowledge of metal processing operations and surface treatments
• Typically requires demonstrated problem-solving skills
• Typically requires experience in developing finishing processes for aluminum, structural carbon steel, stainless steel, titanium, and nickel alloys
• Typically requires knowledge of Design of Experiments, Six Sigma, and statistical techniques
• Typically requires experience in auditing coating processes and working with suppliers
• Typically requires proven teamwork skills
• Typically requires conversation skills in foreign languages (a plus)

Pay and Benefits

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
