Attends Education and Training Sessions
- Full time per established criteria
Rigorous Physical Fitness and Physical Agility Training Programs
- Must demonstrate minimum proficiency skills in high risk, critical tasks and skills based training exercises such as emergency vehicle and pursuit driving, firearms, non-lethal weapons and self-defense training
Learn Numerous State and Federal Laws
- The Penal Code
- Code of Criminal Procedure
- Traffic Laws
- The Constitution
Emergency Management Activities and Duties
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during local emergencies as directed by the Sheriff or Chief Deputy
- Participates in activities and duties assigned by the Sheriff or Chief Deputy
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED with 12 completed college hours
- No experience required
- Good organizational skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public and other employees; ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner
- Must be U.S. Citizen and 21 years old
- Must meet TCOLE and GGLEA minimum standards for licensing that include:
- Never been on court ordered community supervision or probation (including deferred adjudication) for any criminal offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order
- Not currently under indictment for any criminal offense
- Never been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years
- Never been convicted of any domestic violence offense and not be prohibited by state of federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition or from operating a motor vehicle
- Must take and pass a reading comprehension exam and a timed run (16:00 for 1.5 miles)
- Take and pass the following examinations: polygraph, psychological, physical screening and urinalysis
- Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License
