What You’ll Do

  • Provides assistance to the nurses and surgical technologists in the day to day activities of the surgical center.
  • Aids in implementing a plan of care for the patient during the perioperative experience.
  • Assists the RN in the preoperative and post-operative areas as required.
  • Aids the nurses in the operating room and sterile central.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information and patient privacy.
  • Ensures patient safety in all aspects of job activities.
  • Collaborates with all members of the OR team to achieve the Surgi Center’s goals.
  • Follows universal precautions and infection control policies.
  • Prepares the preoperative patient by having them change into a johnnie and taking care of their belongings.
  • Applies EKG leads, oxygen saturation probe, and B/P cuff.
  • Records patients’ initial vital signs including B/P, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturation, and temperature.
  • May provide post-operative nourishment to the patient.
  • Ambulates or pushes the patient in a wheelchair to their car for discharge.
  • Cleans the pre and post-operative bays according to policy following infection control principles.
  • Restocks the pre and post-operative areas.
  • Helps to put away medical-surgical supplies from the warehouse.
  • Aids in the turn-over of operating rooms as needed.
  • Aids in Sterile Central as needed under the direction of the sterile central technician.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • BLS Required.
  • One-year medical office experience preferred.
  • Surgical center experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with office equipment and software.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA, insurance regulations, policies, procedures, and medical terminology.
  • Understanding of electronic medical systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, maintain enthusiasm, prioritize tasks, and multi-task.
  • Organized, reliable, patient, and professional.
  • Reacts calmly and effectively under stress.
  • Interprets, adapts, and applies guidelines and procedures appropriately.
  • Develops and maintains effective and professional working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers, and the public.
  • Understands and promotes teamwork, represents the practice in a professional manner, and maintains strict confidentiality on all patient issues.
