About the role

The Packaging Utility Operator position is designed to have associates trained/qualified to fill in on shift and for overtime where absences create a need for coverage. When a Package Utility Operator employee is trained/qualified in more than one job that needs to be covered at the same time, the company will determine the priority as to which position to cover using the Package Utility Operator employee.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate and adjust all equipment in multiple packaging area’s
  • Maintain line flow and correct problems affecting quality and production costs
  • Make line changes as directed by the Production / Package Lead or Team Leader
  • Willing and able to seamlessly change positions between current qualified jobs to meet plant needs on their respective shift
  • Trained/qualified to fill in on shift and for overtime where absences create a need for coverage
  • May be required to work any shift temporarily (Generally not to exceed 3 months) where they are needed for coverage
  • Maintain safe work practices and participate in safety programs
  • Communicate and work with other hourly associates and salaried personnel in a positive manner
  • Perform routine checks such as CIL’s, CL’s, and FSIL’s
  • Read, write, and communicate in English by using prints, sketches, diagrams, operating instructions and technical manuals
  • Maintain 5S in area’s assigned and working
  • Learn and demonstrate safe use and skilled application of tools, commonly used in this plant, in accordance with established practices and procedures
  • Learn and perform frequent housekeeping to ensure safe and clean conditions in all areas of responsibility
  • Support and promote CPS programs, such as 5S and Centerlining throughout plant
  • Work any shift, overtime, and any or all days of the week in accordance with plant needs

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED is preferred. Know limits of equipment and how to avoid deviations, capable of sound trouble shooting.

Skills

Ability to read, write, and communicate in English by using prints, sketches, diagrams, operating instructions and technical manuals. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Ability to stand and climb or balance. Ability to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk, write, or hear. Ability to safely lift and carry a 50-pound ladder, and safely lift up to 100 pounds unassisted. Ability to adjust focus. Ability to use specific vision abilities such as close, vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to use physical demands such as regular standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, writing, hearing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, reaching, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, and repetitive motions.

Pay

A reasonable hourly estimate for this role is $26.59.

Schedule

This position requires you to safely lift and carry a 50-pound ladder, and safely lift up to 100 pounds unassisted. This position requires you to work any shift, overtime, and any or all days of the week in accordance with plant needs.
