Packaging Lead

About the role

The Packaging Lead meticulously prepares all packaging products for distribution, supports daily workflow, and assists team members in the absence of a Supervisor. This role involves training and coaching packaging team members, opening/closing shifts, and maintaining a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area for yourself and other employees.
• Perform basic visual quality inspections on products to ensure high standards.
• Ensure adequate product levels at each station to maintain packaging flow.
• Observe, train, and coach Packaging Support team members to meet quotas.
• Maintain quality standards during shifts, including constant QA/QC of products.
• Work collaboratively in high-pressure situations with a sense of urgency.
• Communicate discrepancies in product quantities or quality.
• Perform opening and closing duties, including proper storage of consumables and products in compliance with safety practices.
• Maintain sanitation and safety standards; keep the packaging area clean and organized.
• Minimize waste through visual quality inspections.
• Effectively communicate with various levels of the company, responding to questions and suggestions.
• Assist Supervisors and Managers in training Packaging Support employees on procedures, techniques, and compliance.
• Report quality or safety discrepancies to Supervisors, Managers, and/or Directors.
• Make recommendations regarding personnel evaluation and training for the Packaging Support team.
• Assist the Production Manager or Packaging Supervisor as needed.
• Ensure a safe working environment by reviewing and communicating daily safety topics.
• Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of directly related experience and/or training in a food production or manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 1 year of lead or supervisory experience.
• Experience and familiarity with food manufacturing, sanitation, and safety regulations.
• Ability to work with a high sense of urgency.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (core applications), Google, Slack; experience with Jira or other management platforms is preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Occasional travel required between buildings and sites.
• Ability to maintain and manage confidential information.
• Must be 21 years of age or older, per state regulations.
• ServSafe or Food Handler’s Card preferred.
• Must pass a background check and obtain all applicable state-required permits, licenses, and certifications.
