PA or CRNP (ENP), Emergency Medicine - UPMC Mercy (Flex Full-time)

About the role

The University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a Flex Full-time Physician Assistant or Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner to support the Emergency Department at UPMC Mercy.

Hours: Three 10-hour shifts per week
Location: UPMC Mercy

Position Specifics

This APP will spend approximately 50% of their time in the ED Observation unit and the other half of their day will be in the ED.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a face-to-face contact with patients and a review of every patient chart by a physician
• Manage a minimum of 90% of patients per hour based on site volume
• Comply with regulatory agency requirements (OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health)
• Complete patient charts and prepare discharge instructions ensuring thorough and complete documentation
• Perform routine procedures such as splinting, reductions, laceration repair, I&Ds
• Conduct a thorough history and physical examination based on patient complaints
• Ensure coverage of shifts on a 24/7 basis with other APPs
• Assess patient conditions quickly and determine the best course of treatment, including ordering appropriate tests and consulting with physicians

Qualifications

• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and interact appropriately with patients
• Have knowledge of growth and development over the life span
• Able to assess patient data and interpret information to identify patient needs
• Adhere to department policies and procedures

Special Skills and Abilities Required

• Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders
• Ability to work in a complex environment and handle multiple priorities
• Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients

Licensure, Education, Certifications, and Clearances

• Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP): Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program, BSN preferred, current state RN license and CRNP certification, National certification, Act 33, Act 73, Act 34 clearance, ENP certification
• Physician Assistant (PA): Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program, BS or MS preferred, current state PA license certified by NCCPA, current CPR certification, Act 33, Act 73, Act 34 clearance
