Emergency Medicine - Full Time - NP/PA

About the Role

APPs at Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) work to the top of their license, seeing all patients in a high-functioning hospital with a cohesive team and low turnover. The facility is a ~258-bed hospital with Interventional Cardiology, specialty support, and Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations. No separate fast track is available. The team includes 5 physicians and 5-6 APPs scheduled daily, with APPs seeing 1.4–2.0 patients per hour.

Opportunities to see high-acuity patients are available but not required. Provider in Triage (PIT) shifts during peak times are incentivized at $5 per hour. NPs with emergency experience are encouraged to apply. This is a higher-acuity practice, and new graduates are not being considered at this time.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in diagnosing emergency medical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and service for quality patient care.
• Records data and tentative conclusions for review by a physician.
• Coordinates and schedules laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures.
• Explains the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to patients.
• Carries out complex patient care services under indirect physician supervision using advanced medical knowledge.
• Monitors patient progress, maintains records, and consults with the supervising physician when progress does not meet anticipated criteria.
• Plans and schedules work for the physician’s health team, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space, and facilities.
• Participates in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by the supervising physician, including preparing statistical reports and analyses.
• Teaches students, residents, and interns in complex techniques and procedures unique to Emergency Medicine.
• Ensures complete and accurate documentation in the medical record of assessment and plan of care.
• Participates in continuing education in emergency/urgent care.
• Remains up to date with department and hospital policy and guidelines.
• Ensures age/developmentally appropriate patient care in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must have an NC PA/NP license (NPs must be ENP boarded or eligible).
• BLS and ACLS certifications required before starting.
• ATLS certification must be obtained after starting.
• Ability to work a rotating shift schedule and flexibility to cover all shifts.
• Preferred commitment to a 151.67-hour per month model.

Schedule

• 4:30 AM – 2:30 PM
• 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
• 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
• 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM
• 2:30 PM – 12:30 AM
• 7:00 PM – 4:00 AM

Hours after midnight are incentivized at $25 per hour. A core group typically covers early AM shifts, but flexibility to rotate through all shifts is required.

Pay

Provider in Triage (PIT) shifts during peak times are incentivized at $5 per hour. Hours after midnight are incentivized at $25 per hour.

Benefits

• Quarterly incentive bonuses of $10,000–$16,000, eligible after 1 year of employment.
