Overnight Residential Counselor

Join the Susan Wayne Center of Excellence (SWCE) and River Run Academy in supporting the development and growth of young adults who have experienced significant emotional challenges. Our intensive residential, educational, medical, and clinical services serve adolescent boys and girls who are mild to moderately cognitively impaired with concurrent behavioral, mental health, and medical issues. Located in rural Thompson, Connecticut, our state-of-the-art campus offers warm, home-like facilities in a pastoral setting. Our students have often experienced complex trauma and require additional support in the classroom, with emotional and behavioral difficulties, executive functioning, and life skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide humane treatment and ensure dignity for all individuals.
  • Implement all interventions in the most respectful, safest, and least restrictive manner possible.
  • Follow JRI Code of Conduct and Ethics policies, and JRI policies on confidentiality, including confidentiality of records.
  • Implement all crisis intervention techniques as trained following the BCC protocols; report any violations to a program administrator.
  • Support and follow all Treatment Team decisions.
  • Provide supervision, training, and assistance to counselors in completing residential assessments and interventions with students.
  • Assist students with following the daily program schedule, including meals, recreation, housekeeping, chores, and activities of daily living (ADLs).

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree in human services, psychology, social work, or sociology preferred.
  • Must remain awake throughout overnight shift to ensure safety and wellbeing of students.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications.
  • Ability to independently plan and organize one’s own schedule and activities.
  • Mental health program experience with adolescents preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft computer systems and internet preferred.
  • Must pass background checks: acceptable driving record, Nationwide Alpha background check, State of CT criminal background, and DCF background check.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Ability to be certified in BCC (Behavioral Crisis Care).
  • Valid driver’s license in state of residency and approval to drive from JRI insurance for JRI business.
  • Ability to be certified in American Red Cross CPR/First Aid.
  • Eligibility for certification in Medication Administration for DCF and/or DDSA.
  • Availability to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet program staffing needs.
  • Ability to meet the requirements of the mandated staff policy if the need arises.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $19.00 to $25.00 per hour. The listed range reflects what we reasonably and in good faith expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, education, licensure, certifications, and qualifications. Due to the nature of our work, overtime may be mandated.
