About the role

Responsible for supervision of nursing staff on the assigned shift, the nursing care provided and related administrative and professional nursing activities.

Responsibilities

  • Available to offer direct and indirect clinical support as needed; available by pager to coordinate or intervene in medical/psychiatric emergencies, complex clinical issues or situations; answer daily clinical problems and questions generated by nursing staff and other team members
  • Act as a clinical resource and role model for nursing staff
  • Monitor care of patients with wounds, anticoagulants, seizures
  • Report pertinent clinical information to the Director of Nursing
  • Coordinate the admission process as needed; on the 11–7 shift, conduct all aspects of admission including insurance pre-certification and be directly responsible for the discharge summary process
  • Supervise nursing staff on the assigned shift; make rounds to all nursing units twice per shift; obtain shift report from units and relay pertinent information to the next shift
  • Complete staff performance evaluations; manage staffing schedules and daily unit staffing
  • Interact with managed care and all insurance entities as necessary
  • Enter admissions, discharges, transfers and service changes in the Hospital Information System
  • Activate fire and disaster plans; review staff timecards in EZ Labor and time accruals for accuracy
  • Work with Security to ensure safety of patients and staff; oversee emergencies; facilitate 302 petitions and emergency transfers
  • Complete supervisory report and check 24-hour census for accuracy
  • Ensure all staff members participate in mandated training
  • Attend all mandated training and comply with current hospital safety and infection control policies
  • Maintain a professional, cooperative, courteous and respectful demeanor in all interactions with patients, visitors and other employees
  • Answer telephone calls promptly and professionally, stating “Eagleville Hospital,” your name and department
  • Assist patients, family members and other customers with concern and empathy; respect patient confidentiality and privacy
  • Communicate with all customers in a respectful and courteous manner
  • Assist with orientation of new employees and ensure training specific to employee job duties
  • Participate on appropriate committees and task forces; lead and coordinate patient care monitoring as required
  • Support quality improvement activities
